Psora: The Hidden Soil of Chronic Disease.

Psora is recognized in homoeopathy as the most ancient and fundamental chronic miasm, often described as the mother of all disease. It is considered the hidden soil from which chronic illness springs, shaping the destiny of mankind across every dimension—physical, mental, and spiritual. Without understanding Psora, no homoeopathic physician can truly grasp the roots of chronic disease. It is the ever‑present background, the silent force that supports and magnifies the destructive tendencies of Sycosis and Syphilis. Psora’s influence extends in all directions, affecting humanity in countless ways and making its study essential for every serious student of homoeopathy.

Psora: The Hidden Soil of Chronic Disease.

An overview of Psora:

After discovering the Law of Similia— “like cures like”—Dr. Samuel Hahnemann began his homoeopathic practice, prescribing medicines strictly according to this principle. In the early years, however, he noticed something striking although patients initially improved under the action of the similimum, their complaints often returned after some time.

This recurring pattern puzzled him. It suggested that while the law of similia was correct, there was a deeper, underlying factor sustaining chronic illness. This observation eventually led Hahnemann to his groundbreaking theory of miasms, which he described as the fundamental causes of chronic disease. Psora was the first miasm he discovered, and it became the cornerstone of his theory—regarded as the most ancient and fundamental influence, the fertile soil from which all chronic illnesses arise. Later, he identified Sycosis and Syphilis, but he always emphasized that Psora provided the essential background for their action.

The homoeopathy practiced by Dr. Hahnemann before the discovery of chronic miasms he referred to as general homoeopathy. After identifying Psora and formulating the miasmatic theory, he called this evolved approach skilled or complete homoeopathy, recognizing that true mastery of the art required understanding the deeper roots of chronic disease.

The history of Psora is believed to stretch back nearly 3,000 years. Evidence of its earliest form—itch—was recorded among the people of ancient Greece. Over time, Psora revealed itself in diverse manifestations, extending its influence across the human economy. Its signs included leukoderma, dry and tinged hair, Thus, Psora is not merely a medical condition but a universal miasmatic influence, affecting mankind in every sphere—physical, mental, and spiritual—and shaping the foundation of chronic disease as understood in homoeopathy.

Why we need Anti-psoric medicine?

In the preface to the fourth volume, paragraph five of Chronic diseases, Dr. Hahnemann wrote: Without the assistance of an active remedy of human art, the vital force cannot overcome even the slightest acute disease, nor restore any degree of health, except by sacrificing a portion—often a considerable portion—of the fluids and solid parts of the organism through what is termed a crisis. Our vital force has no power to overcome even an acute disease without the aid of medicine.”
This statement, found in his discussion of chronic diseases, clearly indicates that for a successful cure—without sacrificing organs or tissues—physicians require Homeopathic medicine. More precisely, we may call it Anti-Psoric medicine, as it is indispensable for restoring health in a gentle, complete, and non-destructive manner.

Now, someone may ask: “Are there not numerous diseases in nature that can be cured spontaneously? How then can you say that without the aid of medicine our vital force cannot overcome disease?”

Yes, of course, there are many natural diseases that may be cured spontaneously by the organic vital force. But Dr. Hahnemann is not speaking here of such natural, self-limiting conditions. He is referring to diseases that are interwoven with chronic miasms—that is, chronic diseases. In these cases, the unaided vital force is insufficient. It requires the assistance of medicine, specifically Homeopathic or Anti-Psoric remedies, to achieve a true and lasting cure.

Sphere of action of Psoric miasm:

Psora manifests through symptoms affecting various organs and parts of the body. Among these, symptoms related to thermal changes hold paramount importance in the selection of medicine. Such symptoms must always be regarded as expressions of the patient as a whole, rather than being confined to a specific organ or body part
action of Active form of Psora: The active form of Psora primarily manifests in the skin, the body’s outer protective covering. Voluptuous itching is the foremost sign and symptom of the disease, with aggravation occurring at night and from the warmth of the bed. The skin appears rough and dry, and this dryness extends to appendages such as hair and nails. The palms and soles are often dry and cracked. Additional moisturizing is required to help restore and normalize the skin tone. Pustular or watery eruptions in the webs of the fingers can be easily identified as manifestations of active Psora.

When these active manifestations are suppressed by external medication or mineral baths, Psora insidiously turns inward, producing deeper affections. It then affects every organ and part of the body, a condition recognized as the latent form of Psora.

Latent Psora: the action is deep, insidious, wide and extensive. we are going to illustrate organ to organ and parts to part from upward to downward.
